A story of a young girl trying to figure out a mystery… Part 7

Part 7

‘Amelia Ryan Cruz, your father has olive-green eyes! Do you realize what this means?!’ I said sternly. Ok, I admit. I yelled, not said. ‘I have to get my eyes checked?’ She squeaked. Mia looked like she had seen a ghost. She looked pretty shaken. I have never, NEVER yelled in front of her. ‘Not the time to be funny. Your father could be an imposter! So was the lady who looked like your mum.’ I said in a grave voice. ‘Haha, nice imagination. I am pretty sure I would have just seen that his eyes were blue.’ Said Mia. ‘Even if that is the possibility, how can you explain everything that happened?’ I said calmly. Mia thought for a while and then spoke, ‘Let’s say, the man at my house right now is not my dad but an imposter. The woman who evaporated in front of me was too, an imposter. Then, where are my parents? Where did they swap places? Who is the man at my house right now? Why is he pretending he is my father?’ Asked Mia. I closed my eyes and played all the incidents in my mind one by one. After repeating it thrice, I had a probable theory.

‘The imposters must have swapped places during the concert.’, I told her.

‘I was with mum and dad the whole time.’

‘Not when they had gone to the washroom. Just 2 people can’t kidnap 2 adults. Someone must have helped them. Even if they did it by themselves, at least someone in the crowd would have seen them kidnapping 2 people.’

‘Makes sense but where are my mum and dad?’

‘Either they are held hostage somewhere or…’ My voice trailed off.

‘What?’

‘Umm, whoever those imposters work for must be smart. Just a normal man couldn’t plan such a thing. Considering the above ideas, he wouldn’t let any evidence just be there. And your parents are the pieces of evidence.’

‘Are you trying to say that there is a possibility that mom and dad could be… dead?’ Said Mia quietly. I could see tears forming in her eyes. I gently nodded and spoke.

‘Don’t worry, we will find them.’

‘I know. Back to the point.’

‘I am still confused how the fake Ryan knew you spilled water when he wasn’t there.’ I said.

‘Maybe he has some cameras placed at home?’ Mia guessed. I stared at her in amazement.

‘What?’

‘You are a GENIUS!’ I said and hugged her, hard.

‘Thank you? Ummm, Violet. You are crushing me.’ Mia looked puzzled.

‘Let’s go!’ I exclaimed and stood up excitedly. I grabbed Mia by my left hand and the keys to my car and my home. Mia just followed me. I handed her the home keys and told her to lock the main door while I go and start the car. Mia obeyed. I turned on the car and drove it to the main road. Mia sat inside and we drove off to her house.

Mia’s home was a white bungalow with a backyard. The main door was made out of pine. Mia tried to open the door but it was locked. That was not gonna stop her. Mia took out a bobby pin from her hair and tried to pick the lock. ‘You know how to pick a lock?!’ I exclaimed in astonishment. ‘Well, not really. Just trying what I had seen in those escape movies. ‘Click’. ‘Oh yeah! Opened.’ Mia shouted. The door swung open. ‘Umm, you do know right, that you always hide a copy of the key in the backyard.’ I said.

‘Oops.’

We went inside quietly. There was no sound. We let out a ‘WOAH.’ together at the moment of seeing the living room. ‘Are you sure this is your home?’ I said while still shocked. The room wasn’t wrecked.

‘Perfecto!’ Mia spoke in her Spanish accent.

‘Muy beautiful.’ I spoke in my Spanish accent.

Everything was placed where it should be. All the photo frames were somehow not broken and were hanging on the wall. The TV was perfectly fine too. Everything was so…organized.

‘Looks like the fake Ryan fixed everything.’ I said after observing everything.

‘Correcto. Why did we come here?’ Mia asked.

‘To find the hidden cameras, duh?’ I smiled and started searching.

‘Okay!’.
